Meet Carole Durrant, Chairman of the Wilderness Art Association who with her daughter, Biance Ralph as Deputy Chair oversee the Wilderness Art’s Association.
Before 2018 when the Wilderness Art’s Association became official, once a year at the Wilderness Hotel, a small group of artists exhibited their art. Today, there are 166 members and this annual exhibition has expanded to what is knows as the Wilderness Art’s Festival.
This year’s Wilderness Art Festival opens on Thursday 20th April and end on Sunday 23rd April 2023.
The Wilderness Arts Association is a platform for art and artists from Wilderness, Hoekwil and surrounding areas. Artists can exhibit their art at various establishments in Wilderness which include Views Hotel, Views Restaurant, Wilderness Hotel, Salinas Restaurant and Hoeka Toeka Pub & Diner.
The local publication Wats-up on the Wild, is also a project of Carole and Biance which is used to showcase local artists. The centre page of this publication has a map of The Wilderness Art Meander for visitors and locals to venture out to view art on display at studios, galleries, hotels and restaurants.
Carole and Biance own Cabesa Gallery which was formed in 2013 as a family gallery. Ca (Carole) be (Biance called Be) sa (Sarah her niece who was a photographer). Cabesa Gallery along with BCreative Design & Print can been found at their new home, The Studio situated in Leila’s Avenue in Wilderness village.
