Synonymous with Wilderness, the Map of Africa is situated in Wilderness Heights, 7.5 kilometres from Views Boutique Hotel & Spa.

The drive to the viewpoint is easy, however, the last stretch is not tarred but driveable by all types of vehicles (no SUV or 4×4 required). The route is well marked to the viewpoint. With the Touws River meandering around the incredible formation of land, forming the Map of Africa, some have remarked it may even look like a ginormous crocodile. Enjoying a picnic at this viewpoint is a Wilderness must have experience. Enjoy a picnic basket specially packed with your favourite items from Views Restaurant’s deli.

Across the gravel road from the Map of Africa, is vacant land, be daring, yet careful and walk a little down the slope. The view of the coastline of Wilderness as well as the lagoon and part of Wilderness village is spectacular.

There is no charge to view the Map of Africa, which is a definite selfie spot and worth the short visit when visiting Wilderness.
